Library
At the end of WWII in 1944 the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University was re-established. After six years the Faculty's library was established in relation to the fact that University's main library was too far away and, most importantly, because of an increasing need to have a quick and comfortable access to scientific literature. At the time library's fund consisted of books from the former Stapono Batoro University and private collections of various scientists. Most of the books were written in german and russian languages. Library had to constantly change locations, rent a place in the nearby students' dormitory but finally settled on the first floor of the Faculty of Medicine. Currently library has several premises, including service room, reading-room and two storage rooms. Right from the beginning all incoming publications were filed in cards alphabetically. Between 2005 and 2007 the whole catalogue of publications was transferred to electronic database. Electronic readers' service was instituted in 2007.
