Vilnius University (VU) Works Council Electoral Commission informs that, as the term of the second VU Works Council comes to an end, the election for a new Works Council is now underway.

Today, 9 February, marks the start of the first stage of the election – VU employees are invited to nominate candidates for the new Works Council. Candidate nominations will run for two weeks, until 23 February, 17:00.

The VU Works Council is an employee representative body elected through a general election. It represents employees’ interests and contributes to employee well-being, as well as to the development of a safe working environment at VU based on respect and social justice.

Who can stand as a candidate?

Both academic and non-academic VU staff members may be nominated as candidates for the VU Works Council, provided they:

  • are at least 18 years of age;
  • have been employed at VU for more than six months.

Individuals representing the employer (the Rector, Pro-Rectors, the Chancellor, heads of core academic units and their deputies), as well as members of the Works Council Electoral Commission, are not eligible to stand as candidates.

Who can nominate candidates?

Candidates may be nominated by VU employees whose employment relationship with the University has lasted for at least 3 months (excluding individuals representing the employer). Each employee may nominate one candidate. Self-nomination is also allowed.

  • A request to include the candidate on the list.
  • If nominating another employee – the candidate’s written consent to stand for election.

We encourage you to follow updates on the intranet, actively engage in the Works Council election process, and take part in the voting. Your involvement will help determine who represents employees at Vilnius University over the next three years.
