Dear Members of the VU Faculty of Medicine,

When Lithuania became the target of Soviet military aggression on 13 January 1991, thousands of people in Lithuania bravely defended the restored independence of their country. Sustained by strength of mind, resolve, and hope, the people of Lithuania confronted the aggressor. That night, 14 of them – standing in front of the tanks empty-handed, with hymns and prayers – lost their lives, and hundreds were wounded.

Let us remember why we are free and pay tribute to those who died for our freedom. On the morning of 13 January, let us light candles in the windows of our offices and wear a Forget-Me-Not flower at our hearts.

You can print and cut out a flower using the image provided below.
