20240216 030 Commemoration of 16 February at the Dr J. Basanavičius monument / MF archive.

Continuing its annual tradition, the VU Faculty of Medicine community started the Lithuanian State Restoration Day with a meeting at the monument of Dr Jonas Basanavičius (Rasos Cemetery). This year again a large number of patriotic representatives of the Faculty of Medicine - seniors, professors, administrative staff and students - gathered.

The participants were greeted by the Rector of Vilnius University Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas. As befits a historian, he delighted the audience with interesting facts and less frequently mentioned details of history.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Dalius Jatužis, reminded that the consistent upholding of traditions and love for Lithuania is one of the most important values, and "the willingness to gather every year to commemorate the Day of the Restoration of Lithuania in a community manner is a great proof that we can not only work together, but celebrate together as well".

The meeting was concluded by the mixed choir "Alumni Vilnensis" of the Song Lovers' Club and the choir of VUL Santaros Clinic. With the voices of the wonderful choristers, the medical community spread around Vilnius, taking part in other festive events in the city.
