At the Centre of Medical Sciences – a strong focus on UK–Lithuania cooperation in medical science, health research, and innovation. At the end of May, the Centre of Medical Sciences (CMS) hosted a delegation of representatives from the UK medical science and innovation sector, along with the British Ambassador to Lithuania, Liz Boyles. The visit included a discussion on cooperation initiated by the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University (VU MF), with participation from representatives of the Research Council of Lithuania (LMT) and Invest Lithuania.

"The UK is not only distinguished by its world-class scientific achievements but also by its dynamic research and innovation ecosystem. The return of UK researchers to the Horizon Europe programme presents a unique opportunity for Lithuanian scientists to carry out joint research with global leaders in their fields," commented Assoc. Prof. Karolis Ažukaitis, Vice-Dean for Research and Innovation at the Faculty of Medicine, after the meeting.

Throughout the full-day visit coordinated by the Faculty of Medicine, the guests met with the leadership of Vilnius University, colleagues at the Life Sciences Center, and representatives of the Ministry of Health. The delegation was positively impressed by Lithuania’s rapidly developing scientific ecosystem, the abundance of talent, and the energy of people involved — elements they believe form a strong foundation for future breakthroughs.

This initial meeting laid a solid groundwork for continued international collaboration, fostering knowledge exchange, scientific research, and innovation in the field of health care.

Delegation members included:
Prof. Andrew James Boulton (University of Manchester, University of Miami);
Prof. Mike Griffiths (CEO, Advanced Oxygen Therapy Inc);
Prof. Sudhesh Kumar (President, Association for Innovation, Research and Technology Organisations; Vice-President at Warwick University);
Prof. Neil Reeves (Lancaster University);
Prof. Loretta Vileikyte (Lancaster University).
