On 1 September 2026, nearly 1,000 first-year students will begin their studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University. Of these, 165 have enrolled in programmes taught in English, bringing a substantial international cohort into the Faculty’s student community.
In total, the Faculty has admitted 493 students to integrated study programmes, 312 to bachelor’s programmes and 184 to master’s programmes. As in previous years, Medicine and Dentistry remained the most popular choices among applicants. At the same time, interest is growing in other fields that are essential to the healthcare system, including Nursing and Physiotherapy.
This year, the Faculty of Medicine admitted students to the new Master’s programme in Lifestyle Medicine for the first time. The programme attracted considerable interest from applicants, reflecting the growing need within society and the healthcare system to focus more closely on disease management, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and the pursuit of longevity.
However, applicants’ choices also revealed certain challenges: the Master’s programme in Systems Biology did not attract sufficient interest this year.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Laura Nedzinskienė, Vice-Dean for Undergraduate Studies at the VU Faculty of Medicine, emphasises that the admission results reflect not only applicants’ choices but also the evolving needs of society and the healthcare system.
“Each new generation of students arrives at the Faculty of Medicine with high expectations and a desire to contribute to improving people’s health and well-being. It is our responsibility to provide them with an education grounded in the latest scientific knowledge, enable them to study in an interdisciplinary and international environment, and prepare them for the constantly evolving challenges facing healthcare. It is encouraging to see applicants choosing a diverse range of health sciences disciplines and envisioning careers focused not only on treating disease but also on prevention and strengthening public health,” says Assoc. Prof. Dr Nedzinskienė.
