On 16 February, the Day of Restoration of the State, distinguished Lithuanians, including dozens of doctors who have fought against the coronavirus, were honoured with orders and medals. Three members of the community of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University received special recognition.

Dr Vaidutis Kučinskas—academician, chairman of the Department of Biology, Medicine and Geosciences of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, pioneer of human and medical genetics in Lithuania, and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University—was awarded the Cross of the Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.

Dr Balys Dainys—urologist, nephrologist, surgeon, pioneer of organ transplantation and donation, and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University—was awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas.

Dr Mindaugas Šerpytis—head of the Department of Resuscitation and Intensive Care of the Center of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Treatment of Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics and associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University—was awarded the Cross of the Officer of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.
