Vilnius University (VU) has formally ended one more academic year. At the traditional ceremony Finis Anni Academici held at the Church of St. Johns of VU, deserving members of the academic community were honoured, and special thanks were given to scientists for their many years of leadership and participation in community, social and volunteering activities.
“We are wrapping up another eventful year. Having curbed the threat of the pandemic through the effort of people of science and while overcoming one crisis after another, we have found ourselves at the face of an even greater existential challenge. How this affects us, what are the long-term consequences of this political and social tension – these are the questions to be answered”, Rimvydas Petrauskas, rector of VU, said. According to the rector, in the context of the war in Ukraine, VU has emerged as a refuge, a source of security, credibility and has provided a sense of community. It has also revealed the potential and opportunity to use the freedom we have to give sense to our existence intellectually or socially.
To encourage scientists to achieve the highest level of scientific results, the Rector of Vilnius University awarded scientists and groups of scientists with commemorative prizes for scientific achievements. The rector’s acknowledgements were presented to graduates whose studies and scientific activities received Magna cum laude diplomas.
Members of the community of the Faculty of Medicine were also awarded certificates of appreciation during the ceremony. The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Algirdas Utkus and Prof. Aleksandras Laucevičius were awarded a certificate of appreciation for his many years of their leading work. Prof. Rūta Dubakienė and Assoc. Prof. Arūnas Barkus were acknowledged for their hard work and their participation in society and volunteer activities. Congratulations!
