Congratulations on the start of the new academic year! Please take a look at the schedule of opening events for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Coming to a foreign country can be both exciting and challenging. That's why Vilnius University (VU) invites all first-year international students to participate in the #VUniverse Introduction Days from 28 August to 10 September. During these days, you can expect to meet faculty coordinators, take guided tours of VU, and join a variety of engaging activities that will help you connect with both Lithuanian and international students.

You can find the full programme of the Introduction Days and stay up to date with any changes on the dedicated website Studentauk.vu.lt/en/.

First-year students of bachelor’s and integrated study programmes, as well as all those who are able to attend, are invited to participate in the academic year opening events.

We would like to remind you that the Faculty of Medicine is providing all first-year students enrolled in bachelor’s and integrated study programmes at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University in the 2026–2027 academic year with a white coat featuring the Faculty of Medicine logo. Information on how to collect your white coat can be found here.

Workshop to Prepare for the Procession. To prepare for the 1 September procession, the VU Faculty of Medicine Students’ Representation is organising creative workshops where will make slogans, posters, costume accessories, and other items for the event.

9:00–15:00 Orientation Day. A welcoming event for international students beginning their studies at Vilnius University. It is designed to help you settle into life in Lithuania by providing essential information about studying at the University, living in the country, using public transport, staying safe, and accessing student support services. You'll also have the opportunity to meet fellow students, ask questions, and start your journey with confidence. Registration is required. Register here.

Raising the flag of Vilnius University. One of the traditions cherished by Vilnius University is to mark the beginning of the academic year by raising the flag in the Library courtyard.

Freshmen Greeting at the Yard of the VU Faculty of Medicine. Student Representation of the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University invites all the freshmen to gather together and get acquainted.

13:00–13:30

Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year. Welcome addresses by the Dean and the President of the Student Representation of the Faculty of Medicine, followed by the First-Year Student Oath.

14:45–15:30

Procession of Vilnius University Students, Staff and Alumni. Traditional procession of the Vilnius University students, professors, lecturers, and alumni starts from the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania and marches down Gediminas Street (the main street of Vilnius), heading towards the central building of Vilnius University. During the procession, all the students of the Faculty of Medicine are invited to wear the Faculty’s symbol—a white coat.

15:30–16:30

Official Ceremony Marking the Beginning of the Academic Year RENOVATIO STUDIORUM. All VU staff, students, and alumni are invited to participate.

A lecture organised by the VU Library, where you will learn about library services, study spaces, and information resources essential for your studies. You will learn how to use the virtual library, find the resources you need, borrow publications, and meet your faculty librarian.

(FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS ONLY)

14:00–15:00

Lecture: WHAT TO DO When You Don't Know What to Do? Services for Students. A lecture by the VU Counseling and Career Centre & Community Well-being Office. This presentation will help you navigate the wide range of services and opportunities at Vilnius University and take further steps toward your personal development.

16:00–20:00 Freshers' Picnic. VU Counseling and Career Centre invite all first-year students to a cozy and fun Freshers' Picnic! This is a great opportunity to make new friends and have fun in nature. Registration for the event is required.
The picnic will take place at two locations at the same time, so please choose whichever is more convenient for you: near the Observatory of Ideas, M. K. Čiurlionio st. 29, or near the Faculty of Physics (Building III), Saulėtekio Av. 9.

Meeting for Faculty of Medicine Students Studying in English. Presentation of Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine International Students’ Representation (VU SA MF ISR) activities, first-year students' icebreaking, and an overview of life and study experience in Vilnius.

13:00–22:00 VU SR Integration Festival "AD ASTRA“. The week will conclude with the festival organised by the VU Students' Representation. Explore the student organisations and initiatives fair, join discussions on student-relevant topics, take part in interactive activities, enjoy the evening concert, and much more. The event is free, but registration is required.

From 7 to 10 September, while your curiosity is still fresh after the Introduction Days, take this unique opportunity to discover VU from a new perspective by joining special guided tours and open training sessions.
